The historic Chesterfield Building was built in 1948 and was the main factory producing cigarettes for the Liggett and Myers Tobacco Company. By the year 2000 the company had abandoned its campus in downtown Durham and the building is now being converted into lab space for Biotech companies.
As part of this project Associated Scaffolding was contracted to provide work platforms to gain access to the façade for exterior brick restoration and for new windows to be cut in. The local swing stage installation team from Durham, NC constructed 4 swing stages for this project, including one stage that was configured to wrap around the corners of the building. The scaffold erection team from Durham, NC also joined in on this project, with a scaffold tower made of systems ring lock constructed around the flag pole at the top of the 8-story building. This scaffold tower allowed access for the pole to be painted and restored.
